For parents, mentors and caregivers who are looking for mental health programs, resources, and support for adolescents and teens, we have compiled a list of potential resources. This is in no way a complete list of resources for Broward County children, and inclusion in the list doesn’t equate to an endorsement of the organization. Always vet resources using your own criteria, read other users’ reviews, and ask a lot of questions before enlisting them to help with any child’s care. 

Broward County and National Crisis Lines

1800-Runaway

The National Runaway Safeline, a nonprofit established in 1971, offers support to youth and teens in Broward County and all over the country, who are in crisis. Their website has resources for youth and teens, as well as for concerned adults and service providers. The home page offers several ways to tap to connect (auto dial phone, live chat, email, join a forum, or send a text message). Learn more about the NRS 1800Runaway safe line.  

211 Broward

2-1-1 Broward is a 24-hour live helpline for anyone — children and adults — in crisis. You can reach them by dialing 211 or texting a message to 898211. For non-urgent issues, their home page includes live chat between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET. Learn more about 211 Broward.

311 Call Center, Broward County

Broward County’s 311 Call Center puts you in touch with more than 60 agencies within county government, including agencies that handle traffic issues, animal cruelty concerns, child neglect concerns, hurricane preparation and more. Learn more about 311 Broward County Call Center. 

911 Report a Crime

This is the national number to call to save a life, report a crime, and report fires. If someone’s life is in danger, call 911.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Also a national number, 988 is specifically for anyone who is struggling in crisis. If you or someone you know is struggling, dial 988. Learn more about the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. 

741741 Crisis Text Line

When talking on the phone isn’t safe, or if someone in crisis feels more comfortable texting, the Crisis Text Line is available 24/7. Text the word “Home” or “Hello” to 741741, and a live trained volunteer crisis counselor will reply. You can also chat online or use WhatsApp to chat. Learn more about 741741 CTL.

Rebel’s Drop-In Center

Rebel’s Drop-In Center in Broward County, Florida, is a resource for children and adults who are dealing with mental health or substance abuse issues. Located at 5595-B S. University Drive, Davie, FL 33328, the center offers a variety of services aimed at providing social support and advocacy in a safe and supportive environment. Services include peer counseling, social activities like arts and crafts, movies, and outings, as well as support groups for anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. It’s open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m.

Founded in 2001, Rebel’s Drop-In Center was established in partnership with Memorial Healthcare System, the Department of Children and Families, and the Human Services Department of Broward County, providing a prejudice-free space to assist those on their recovery journey. The center is named in honor of Rebel B., a young person who battled substance abuse and mental health issues. There are no fees for its services, and no appointment is necessary.

Other Mental Health Resources and Treatment Facilities

SAMHSA is a national organization that helps people find support for mental health and substance abuse. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is a U.S. government agency within the Department of Health and Human Services. SAMHSA’s website includes a directory of providers that includes public and private facilities.  

Their database of mental health providers includes private practices, outpatient facilities, residential 24-hour facilities, and even telemedicine and telehealth providers. Use the filters to find the right mental health provider, such as those that accept Medicaid and state welfare or child and family services funds and those that offer payment assistance or sliding scale (based on income). 

SAMHSA’s filters also include: by age groups, LGBTQ, people who’ve experienced trauma, children with serious emotional disturbance (SED), and more. Learn more about SAMHSA, and then find support for mental health.  

LGBTQ+ Friendly Mental Health Programs

SunServe

The mission of SunServe is to provide “critical life assistance and professional mental health services” especially for marginalized youth, adults and seniors in South Florida. Their website states that everyone, including the entire LGBTQ community, has a right to quality care. Their programs include mental health counseling, and services are offered on a sliding scale. The Broward Behavioral Health Coalition is the “managing entity” for Broward County’s provider network of substance abuse and mental health providers.

Henderson Behavioral Health offers a wide variety of services to youth and families, including mental health support. Henderson was established in 1953 and serves over 30,000 people of all ages and with a variety of needs every year in Broward County.

Offering behavioral health treatment for a variety of mental health disorders including teenage depression, sibling-related anxiety and trauma, Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health Center accepts Medicare, private insurance and offers easy self-pay rates.

Our Children, Our Future Inc.

Our Children, Our Future offers individual and family therapy, after school programs, depression and PTSD support, as well as support for anxiety, behavioral problems and ADHD, serving individuals age 2 to 21. They accept insurance and offer free services to qualified children under 18.

Mental Health America of Southeast Florida

MHA of Southeast Florida offers referrals, school-based prevention programs, and family support.
