Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County recently named Guillermo (Willy) Gomez, President of Southeast and Mid-Charlotte Commercial Banking for Woodforest National Bank, Chair of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County Board of Directors, a position he will hold for the next two years.
Gomez, who joined Woodforest National Bank in 2016, was entrusted to rollout the state’s commercial banking effort. Since joining Woodforest, he has expanded his team to 25 employees in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Charlotte. Within six months and under Gomez’s direction, the two Florida offices experienced significant success. Currently, all offices continue to enjoy strong performance serving a broad range of commercial enterprises.
Gomez is surrounded by a group of successful leaders on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward new Executive Committee, including:
- Marlene Williams, Vice Chair. Williams served as VP of Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands for Xerox International. Now retired, Williams brings action-oriented, results-focused leadership to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Board. Her insightfulness and pragmatism drive the development and speedy implementation of practical, effective action plans and solutions that deliver strategic advantage, and strong top and bottom line results.
- Jack Milbery, CPA, Treasurer. Milbery has been practicing accounting for 27 years and is a Florida Certified Public Accountant. His experience includes 15 years at the international accounting firms of Deloitte &Touche, BDO Seidman, and McGladrey Pullen in the areas of audit, tax, and consulting. Milbery began the firm in August 2001 to concentrate in providing service to small and medium-size companies. Milbery graduated from Stetson University in 1987 with a Post Baccalaureate in Accounting.
- Michael “Mike” Velazquez, Secretary. Velazquez started a consulting firm, Velazquez & Associates, PLLC, after selling his interest in The Accountancy, LLP as part of a planned succession. In his new firm, he has the ability to accept projects based on their emotional/intellectual appeal rather than just their economic value. He plans to teach, mentor and write, volunteer in worthy causes, and act as a resource to other colleagues that want to develop their financial services practice or improve the performance of their existing practice. Velazquez has been practicing accounting for 27 years and is a Florida Certified Public Accountant.
- Chelsea Koff, Legal Counsel. Koff, an Associate in the Litigation Department at Stearns Weaver Miller, represents clients across a wide range of commercial matters, including contract claims, business torts litigation, and regulatory matters. She also counsels clients involved in government investigations and white-collar criminal cases. She also has extensive eDiscovery and eRetention experience, using technology-assisted review (TAR) to manage large-scale litigation efficiently and effectively. Prior to joining the Stearns Weaver, Koff was an associate in an Am Law 50 law firm and a Broward County Assistant State Attorney in Broward County.
- Chad Van Horn, Past Chair. Van Horn is the founding partner attorney of Van Horn Law Group, P.A., one of the largest bankruptcy law firms in the state of Florida based on cases filed, according to Pacer.gov. Van Horn is known for his community service, including volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward for many years as a board member and mentor. He gives back to the community by supporting students in need at Broward College, helping children by supporting the OJ McDuffie Catch 81 Foundation, assisting vets through Mission United and more.
