Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward celebrated the New Year on January 3rd with its first match of the year – Big Sister Dana Geberovich and her Little Sister Sarah. The two already are forging a strong relationship as they have much in common, including a Hispanic background that is foundational in both of their lives.
Dana, a resident of Hollywood, expressed a preference to mentor a Little from a Hispanic family who spoke Spanish, knowing that her background would align perfectly with a young person with a similar heritage. She was so pleased to be matched with Sarah, a shy 16-year-old, a 10th-grader who attends SunEd High School.
Dana and Sarah enjoyed all kinds of art while strolling Las Olas Boulevard at the 37th Annual Las Olas Fort Lauderdale Art Fair at their first outing. After a fun morning of connecting and getting to know each other better, they enjoyed lunch at a Mexican restaurant, favorite cuisine for them both. Future plans include activities ranging from going to an arcade, hitting the beach and taking in a movie.
After their initial outing, Dana said she felt optimistic that she and her Little had laid the groundwork to establish a long-term, meaningful connection. As a nurse practitioner who helps people in need every day, Dana has a heart for others and a nurturing and supportive spirit. She truly is the ideal role model for her Little Sarah. Dana looks forward to helping Sarah blossom – to help her build her confidence and fine tune her social skills so she thrives as a teenager and young adult.
