Hollywood Police Department officers who volunteer as mentors in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward Bigs in Blue initiative hosted a Surprise Police Parade for their Little Brother and Sister mentees.
The Littles, their siblings and parents gathered at the Tri-Rail Station parking lot and social distanced outside their cars. The police officers surprised the children with a parade of cruisers flashing lights, whooping sirens and calling out loudspeaker encouragement to the kids.
The intention of the fun, social-distanced gathering was to break the monotony of online schooling and stay-at-home restrictions while reconnecting the Littles with their Bigs, who have only communicated through phone conversations since the pandemic broke out.
After the initial surprise, the 9- and 10 year-olds and their siblings received goody bags from the officers and had a chance to say hello face-to-face after many weeks.
