Twenty-seven children, enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward (BBBS) program, enjoyed a morning of skateboarding on Saturday, April 27, at Hollywood’s Stanley Goldman Park. Fifteen of these youngsters received skateboards donated by the staff of McGraw Hill Education who manufactured them during a team building exercise the publishing company held, in Fort Lauderdale, two-months ago. The others came with skateboards that Boards for Bros donated to them during previous events held in partnership with BBBS of Broward.
Boards for Bros is a Tampa-based non-profit organization that provides “the gift of skateboarding” to children in need across the nation. Not only they equip children with skateboards but, through a diverse team of skillful and committed instructors, they teach them the art of skateboarding no matter the level the child is at.
The individual attention provided by these instructors contributed to the children building trust and self-confidence, conquering fears, gaining a sense of achievement and engaging in a healthy activity that keeps them away from risky behaviors. These are all key values that BBBS stands for and provides through its one-on-one mentoring services.
