Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward broke all records at its annual Swing for Kids’ Sake golf tournament by raising more than $97,000 – the most funds raised since the inception of the tournament in 2010 – all to support the professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. The annual tournament, chaired by Big Brothers Big Sisters longtime board member John Corrado, attracted 112 golfers to the Country Club at Weston Hills.
“We’re very grateful to John and all of our golfers, sponsors and contributors who made this fundraiser incredibly successful,” said Malena Mendez, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward. “It was gorgeous day and a super-fun event, especially our closest-to-the-pin golf ball drop.”
Approximately 500 golf balls were purchased for a chance to win a cash prize in this closest-to-the-hole contest. After golfers completed their round of golf, the golf balls were dropped by a helicopter, causing quite a spectacle as guests and golfers surrounded the area to watch. Three people were winners – Carmen Miller, Debra Van Horn and Lori Adelson – as their golf balls landed equidistant from the hole.
Post-golf, players enjoyed a lunch and awards ceremony in the Weston Hills dining room overlooking the course. Winners of the golf tournament included:
- First Place Men’s Team – Chad Van Horn, Tom Craddock, Don Wright and Tim Hogans
- First Place Women’s Team – Traci Miller, Dana Duquesne, Bonnie Koppelman and Stefanie Salomon
- Men’s Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive – Troy Snider
- Women’s Longest Drive – Bonnie Koppelman
